Eugene’s Jewelers is a landmark in Los Feliz Village. Now in it’s 64th year owned by the same family, the quality, service a personal “touch” has never changed. Eugene Sugarman and now his son Mark, based their success on honesty, quality, selection, and fantastic customer service, and great prices for lasting this long. Starting at 1745 No. Vermont Ave in 1946 and then building a new store at 1754 No. Vermont Ave. in 1970 the tradition lives on!

My fiance and I went here hours after he became my fiance to have my ring sized and cleaned. ?Eugene’s is in our neighborhood, near Palermo’s, Fred 62, and Paradis, and we had both been passing Eugene’s on the way to these places and thinking marriage-thoughts for a long time. ?He gave me a family ring, so there was no ring-shopping for us, but it gave us both so much pleasure to stop by (they’re open on Saturdays), get buzzed in, and talk with the woman behind the counter. ?He proposed on a hike, so we were kind of rough-looking in torn jeans and hiking boots and sweatshirts, but she was very pleasant and didn’t make us feel weird at all. ?The ring was ready in 6 days. ?It was sized perfectly and polished to perfection for under $30. ?We couldn’t be happier and will definitely be going back here to get his ring sized as well when it gets closer to the date. ?Definitely feels like we now have a family jeweler. ?Go Eugene’s!
I got my boyfriend a ring for Christmas and it ended up being too small.We went in yesterday to ask if they did resizing and when they had a look at the ring they said they could not resize it then started snapping about how we needed to take it the original maker to be resized and then stated for us to leave because they were very busy having a brunch sale special.REALLY?All we asked is if they could resize it and they said no and then told us to leave.It’s not like I brought in a ring from a cracker Jack box either, it’s a very nice and expensive ring.What if we were also interested in purchasing something? So rude. ?I have never taken the time to actually write a review about a bad experience, but how awful they were is still leaving me upset a day later.Like other reviewers have said, if they can’t make an instant buck off you they bark you out of their store. I will surely spread the word about how awful they are.
I’ve heard many people say how the people working here rubbed them the wrong way. I can see how they would have the potential to do so, but I myself had no problem at all. I had an old watch bequeathed to me by my deceased grandfather, and the stretchy wristband was too large and had some faulty links. They replaced it at a very good price, and even added back a couple of links the next day after I realized it was too tight. A minor job perhaps, but a very time-consuming one, and they did it perfectly. Good place!
Although Eugene’s get’s mixed reviews on here, I decided to roll the dice and go anyways since it’s so close to my home. I took my promise ring to be re-sized smaller. Service was friendly. Said it would be done in a week… got a call just a few days later that it was done. My ring is engraved but wasn’t an issue. Fit’s perfect. I was in and out, no fuss no muss. Exactly what I was looking for. Only 30$. Perfect.
Seriously, how are these people still in business? First of all, the shop is more reminiscent of a pawn shop than a jewelry store. It was lacking in class, and frankly just had an oppressive feel to it. My first two seconds I was greeted (ha! can you feel the sarcasm?) by some lady in glasses who barely turned around enough to give me a side glance… I assume dressing the window is far more important than the ONE person inside the store. I asked if I could possibly find out what my ring size is. She says I have to buy a ring first (mind you, I get that it must be annoying to do something for free, even though it takes all of two seconds for me to slip the thing on my finger, but you don’t get a loyal customer by shutting them down in the first two minutes). I explain to her that I would like to know my ring size so in the event someone suprises me with a ring, he can get the right size. She tells me I have to buy a ring, and then they can resize it. Ok. No problem. She turns around, thus ending the conversation. I walk out, a little stunned. I walk down to Drucker’s Jewelry Shoppe, ask the same thing. He courteously said yes, sized my finger, and we had a great conversation about recent archaeological finds in Armenia. I am now in love with Drucker’s, and will send everyone I know to his store. Stores like that are why I love living in Los Feliz. Eugene’s Jewelers… well, it’s just an over-priced pawn shop with sh*tty employees.
Those people did a great job with my wedding ring. I broke my arm this summer and the doctor had to cut ?the ring because my finger was swelling…So I had to fix the ring and brought it to this store. The job was done fast, the repair is impeccable men’s watches, not one imperfection. And this for less than 30 dollars. I would highly recommend them.

My boyfriend gave me an art deco style promise ring (not the purity type) for Valentine’s Day. And I LOVE it. But he sort of bought one that was a size and a half too big. What can you do? Eugene’s Jewelers were awesome. So professional in resizing my ring. It looks absolutely perfect and was done in a week. The best part- it only cost $24. Now I can wear the ring without worrying I’ll lose it wherever I go! Great store. I will be back if I need jewelery repairs or resizing in the future.
Has anyone else noticed that all of the negative reviews are from people who are not actually customers, but tried to go into the store and get help for free??I took an 18k gold sapphire and diamond ring in to be sized. They could not have been more friendly or more helpful. I asked Mark (the owner) question after question about different jewelry pieces I own that I would like to have altered/ added to and he could not have been more helpful and honest. Super reasonable price on the ring sizing and I feel in good hands.These people know what they are doing. If you are an actual potential customer, they can help you. If you want advice on who to go to for a service this business cannot offer you, why don’t you use your yelp account to find someone who can, instead of writing pointless reviews about how slighted you felt by their reluctance to help you find a different jeweler??!UPDATE:I just picked my ring up and it is PERFECT! I could not believe it when they told me it was only 29 dollars. there is not a single imperfection on this ring and I couldn’t be happier I found Eugene’s. What a great find!
I went here along with a few other places in Los Angeles while searching for an engagement ring, and was very much impressed with the service from Mark Sugarman, an associate working there. ?He was extremely patient, and offered great advice, and was the least pushy Jeweler I had met in Los Angeles. ?I didn’t end up buying here, purely because of the turnaround time of a custom piece – I was looking to walk out with something, and a custom order would have taken three weeks to process – partly my fault for being impatient, but I was anxious, it’s an engagement ring! ?If there hadn’t have been for that delay, I would have definitely purchased a ring there – Mark was exceptional in his service, and prices were fair. ?I will be going there first for future purchases.
I came in with a watch that needed repairing that they couldn’t fix. No problem, but when I asked for a recommendation for a repair shop in the neighborhood they became curt and unhelpful. I told them I heard there were a few other jewelers in the neighborhood, but their response was “just walk around” and then stopped talking to me. Who acts like that? I got the feeling they couldn’t be bothered if there wasn’t something in it for them, which is too bad because there could have been in the future. There happens to be a great and very reasonable watch repair guy across the street! AM watch repair.
Update in response to owner: It doesn’t matter how long ypu’ve been in business, if you aren’t nice or too busy to be nice, you will turn people off. I had my ring in my hand ready to be resized, i wasn’t ordering online. I wanted to know who made the mistake in sizing, me or original jeweler. I can grasp the idea that it’s annoying to have people use you for just sizing, but you didn’t attempt to explain anything. And i don’t hop around sizing my fingers at jewelry stores, so i didn’t know why it was a such a big deal justifying your attitude towards me about it. You just said you couldn’t tell me unless i had you resize it. There’s a nice way to explain your plight to people. And you had one customer and three workers in the store. Too busy to be nice or deal with me?. Not to mention both times I went in, no one even gives a simple greeting or farewell! The highest reviewed jeweler on Yelp, Eli’s downtown, said they got to be so successful by always being warm and accomodating, utilizing word of mouth between customers. They were really busy when I stopped by after your place and hired them to resize the ring, but they were still gracious. They encouraged us to take our time and answered questions, so we bought our wedding bands from them on the spot. You seem a little backwards in your attitude that i should be nice and respectful to you in order to get helpful service. Or, like i said in my original review Titanium jewelry, you may not be interested in new business, which is fine.Whoa. What a bunch of dicks.I will preface with the fact that I can’t comment on their goods or prices, just their service. I couldn’t possibly get far enough to give them my service. I’ve been there once before to browse watches, which was also a nightmare situation in this store, but today they made me write a review they acted so shitty.Don’t go in here to browse (like I did for a watch, but was pretty much shooed away when I asked questions), and don’t go in unless you are sure you want to buy something.I went in to see about getting my engagement ring resized. It was too big, and I first wanted to see what size the ring actually was, as well as my ring finger, to see if the jeweler it was ordered from messed up or if I sized my own finger wrong before ordering. I asked if they could check the size of the ring. They said they couldn’t do that unless I paid them to resize it. I asked if they could tell me the size of my finger, explaining my situation, and they said they wouldn’t do either unless I bought something. I said again, “You are a jeweler, the only one in the area. I want to know what size my finger is BEFORE I buy something from you.”He handed me the ring sizer, which was right behind the counter. I said softly, “Geez Wholesale beads, not really a big deal.” Eugene said, “Yeah, ACTUALLY it is a big deal” and huffed away. If these people would’ve been nice or acted like people who like business, I would’ve had them resize it then and there. But instead they were mean and condescending. I understand wanting people who are serious about buying, but you have to try a little. You aren’t the only jeweler in the city. I’d feel like an ass if I gave these people my money.
I went here to buy my husband a money clip for Christmas a few years back. I’ve never bought one before but the price seemed fine.I thought the staff was helpful and friendly.If I remember correctly there’s also free alcohol to loosen you up a bit.. ;D
I purchased a watch from here recently. Mark walked me through the watches available, while giving me detailed information about the features and history of the watch makers. He obviously knew his stuff and was more informative than “salesy”. ?I like the oldschool vibe of the establishment and appreciate the booze that is available to assist buying decisions. My price range was moderate, thus the price rating, but there are certainly pricey items on deck!Shopping here you will experience what it must have been like to shop back in the day when every store wasn’t a product pushing chain slinging cheap goods.

I went here because it is in the neighborhood but unfortunately they were extremely rude and unhelpful.The guy I spoke with was very patronizing and didn’t seem to want to answer questions. The woman working there was also unhelpful and smells bad — this may be rude to say but it is part of the reason I wouldn’t go back there. I will just have to go back downtown to Farah’s if I need any jewelry or resizing.
I brought a bracelet and some charms in to have the charms attached – one of which was an 18th century french locket. It was going to take them 5 days, which was fine. I wanted it for a dinner that Thursday night, so I asked if I could pick it up Thursday, but I understood that they couldn’t do it. The woman who works there called me on Friday to say it was ready, which was nice. On Saturday she called me again very rude to ask why I hadn’t picked it up, and pointed out that I’d said I wanted it that Thursday. Okay, whatever. Odd, but fine. I went in today to pick up the bracelet and it look great and was nicely polished. But, when I went to open the French locket, the clasp broke. THEY HAD GLUED IT SHUT. What I’m guessing happened was that it broke while they were cleaning the bracelet, and someone glued it in place. Why would you glue a locket??? I didn’t want to leave it with them to fix it because, honestly, the workmanship is obviously shoddy if they’re gluing things together, and this is a very fine piece. But I also didn’t want to have to pay for the original work since they ruined the locket. She said she couldn’t do anything, because she didn’t know for sure that they had actually broken the locket since she hadn’t seen if it had been glued shut when I brought it in. Excuse me?? Did she think I just broke the locket in front of her intentionally? I ended up paying because it wasn’t worth the hassle, but I promised I would leave a review of my experience. Unbelievable to have such offensive customer service. I’m taking the charm to my regular jewelers, Eichberg in Century City, as they always do amazing work and couldn’t be nicer. I tried Eugene’s because they were closer and I like supporting neighborhood businesses. Obviously, that was a mistake.
I have been buying jewelry from Eugene’s ?for at least 15 years. ?I have never been treated anything other then first class!. The owner, Mark, has always answered all questions, the staff always friendly and helpful. ?I recently purchased a piece for my wife ?and to be honest it was picked out by the owner and was a big hit! ? Thanks to all the folks at Eugene’s you have a customer for life!
I originally came in here to get my boss’s jewelry cleaned and fixed and I decided to throw one of my rings to be cleaned in the mix. ?They were very helpful and the price was incredibly reasonable. ?My ring sparkled like new! ?I actually had completely forgotten how amazing it originally looked. ?I decided to bring my boyfriend back since we’re starting to look at engagement rings. ?We had a great experience and I fell in love with a diamond and sapphire art deco ring. ?There was never any pressure on us for going bigger and more pricey. ?In fact she said that he was so lucky to have such a down to earth lady! ?I ended up purchasing some simple studs and only time will tell if I get that diamond/sapphire ring I was eyeing 
if you ever need any jewelry repaired, they are super nice, quick and cheap here. i’ve had many necklaces and things resoldered for a very reasonable price. on one necklace i had fixed had a bunch of faceted white stones, a few of which were missing – i took it in to for soldering and they replaced the missing stones free of charge! the replacements were just white plastic or something that they made similar cuts, in but no one notices the difference.don’t let another of this neighborhoods cute mom and pop businesses go out of business!
